Literature Text

Workers started putting up large Christmas trees in the square. Airships were decorated with whatever Christmas decorations would stay attached to the outside of them. Kagege's house also underwent redecorating.
Hanana stood on a chair to reach the places where she could hang the holly garlands. It had become a monotonous, habitual action by that point and she didn't have to think about it as much anymore. Her mind was free to dwell on other things, like the eventual attack of the ballroom on Christmas. She still wasn't sure what to make of it. The corps members were her friends now, but she didn't think it would be right to do something like this.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Mekeke entering the room, carrying mistletoe tied together by a red ribbon. "Look what I found!" he said. "I'm going to have to tie this up somewhere that nobody would expect it." He stroked his chin thoughtfully, an evil grin pulling at the corners of his mouth.
Hanana stepped off the chair, her work finished. "Well, the door to the kitchen would be a good idea," she suggested.
"Don't encourage him," Putata scolded, but he was smiling.
"Oh look!" Mekeke said, holding the mistletoe over Putata's head. He gave Putata a swift peck on the cheek before dashing away, laughing.
"You can run but you can't hide!" Putata shouted after him, laughing as well. He chased after Mekeke, nearly knocking Hanana off her feet as he ran past her.
"Why do they insist on running around indoors?" Kagege said with a heavy sigh. Hanana hadn't been aware that he was in the room before. "I'm going to have to stop them before they destroy anything."
Hanana picked up the empty box that had once contained the garlands and went to find something else she could do. If there wasn't anything else, she had the chance to finish her book. As she was taking the box to somewhere it wouldn't be in the way, she bumped into Yukiki.
"Oh, sorry," Hanana laughed.
"Don't worry about it," Yukiki said. "I've had worse experiences, one of them being when I was knocked over by Mekeke and Putata just a minute ago."
"Did you get hurt?"
"No. I'm far more durable than most would think. So you've joined them in trying to decorate for Christmas?"
Hanana shuffled a little. "We want to celebrate early before the…mission," she said. "We're not going to give presents, but we're hoping for all of the corps to have dinner together."
Yukiki smiled. "It doesn't sound like a bad idea. One of Putata and Mekeke's better ideas actually. I suppose I have you to thank."
"Not really." Hanana waved a hand. "It was mostly their idea."
At that moment, Putata and Mekeke raced into the hallway, Mekeke still carrying the mistletoe. Mekeke stopped by Yukiki and Hanana and held the mistletoe over them (or over Hanana really, seeing as Yukiki was a little too tall to reach).
"What have we here?" Mekeke said. "You have to follow the rules you two!"
Yukiki turned bright red and turned his eyes to the wall. Hanana laughed nervously and put a hand to her cheek. It was burning.
"They need encouragement," Putata said, giving Hanana a gentle push towards Yukiki.
"It would be too forward of me to…kiss her," Yukiki said, trying to save face in the only way he could. "It would be rude."
"Those rules don't apply under the mistletoe," Mekeke said, the evil grin returning.
Yukiki looked even more distressed and embarrassed. Hanana realized that it was up to her to save them. She stood on her toes and gave him a kiss on the cheek. It was cold, but not unpleasant. Yukiki looked like he might faint. There was what looked like a faint steam rising from him, probably caused by all the heat rushing to his head.
"Happy Holidays, Yuki," she said. With that done, she went to put away the box. She could hear Mekeke and Putata making sounds of disappointment.  As soon as she was far enough away, she touched her lips and wondered what it would've been like if they'd actually kissed.

Giruru found a tree somewhere. He didn't say he bought it, but where was he going to steal it from. Yet where he "found" it was questionable. It was still alive and in a very large pot which was curious. At least it was healthy looking.
They set it down in the sitting room. They didn't have any tree decorations except for a star made out of folded paper, but they had a tree. It was as close as they could come to a real Christmas. Mekeke gave Nuii a lift so that she could put the star on herself.
"As far as we're concerned," Putata said. "Tonight is Christmas, seeing as we have work on the actual Christmas."
"So we're all going to eat together," Mekeke said. "Even Robobo, who we have dragged from the basement."
Robobo didn't look too happy about it. His arms were folded and Hanana could almost hear his thoughts of wanting to return to the basement to do whatever he wanted instead of spending time with the various weirdos he worked with.
In the end, everyone crowded around the table like before and had dinner. The conversation was louder and more casual this time around. Hanana let herself melt into the scene and found herself talking along with everyone else.
"Why don't we eat like this all the time?" Gyroro asked.
"It's a special occasion brat," Giruru said. He ruffled Gyroro's hair, indicating friendliness in his harshness.
"And it's not like we have enough money like the rich folk," Kagege said. "Everybody had to pitch in just for the turkey and it's not even that big. Prices are going up."
"We're going to have to start scamming more people if that's true," Putata said.
Everyone laughed and, surprisingly, Hanana did too.
In which there is a Christmas.
Time for more warmth and joy.
