Literature Text

Hanana's breath formed white clouds in the cold air. Couples walked by arm in arm, mothers held their children's hands and young ladies giggled to each other about who knows what. It would have been a charming scene if Hanana wasn't running for dear life.
"This way," Yukiki said, gesturing to an alleyway. As soon as she rounded the corner, she was pressed against the wall.  She opened her mouth to scream when Yukiki shushed her. She wished she didn't have to be so close to him. It was uncomfortable to say the least.
The police rushed past, not even pausing to check the alleyway. Hanana took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Thank goodness.
Yukiki jumped away from her, embarrassed. "Er, we need to get to a safer place." He looked away as he said this, and Hanana thought she saw him blushing, but she dismissed it.
"Where will we go?"
"Samama's house. I doubt we'll be traced back there."

Hanana watched as Yukiki looked out for the police. She'd never thought she would get into a situation like this. Her nerves were humming with the stress put on them. She started to tear up. Using her sleeve, she wiped them away, but they kept coming back.
"There's no one…are you crying?" Yukiki looked concerned. Hanana shook her head but she was unable to hide her upset. Yukiki sighed and said, "I told you something like this would happen. No use now, you're in too deep."
Hanana rubbed her eyes, frustrated. She would appreciate him not saying, "I told you so". She wondered what Putata and Mekeke were doing. She hoped they'd gotten away safely.
Yukiki held his hand out to her. "Let's hurry," he said. "They could come back."
Hanana reluctantly took his hand and followed him onto the street.  "Why are the police after you?"
Yukiki didn't answer. He just scowled and continued looking straight ahead. Hanana frowned too. She didn't understand why he had to be so sullen. The least he could do was answer her question.
They reached Samama's house. Hanana's eyes darted over to the greenhouse briefly, then back to the house.  She didn't think she'd ever seen the front of it before. It was just like any other place, neater maybe, but average. For some reason, she'd had an image of the place looking much different.
She'd heard the Samama was a woman destined to be a spinster. She wasn't delicate, like other ladies and wore trousers. She was apparently brash and stubborn. Hanana had wondered for a long time whether or not these things were true.
Yukiki knocked on the door. For what seemed like forever, no one answered. Yukiki was tapping his foot with impatience, when the door was opened by a woman who could only be Samama.
She DID wear trousers. She also wore goggles, but they weren't the fashion statement kind. Her hair was bright red and piled up in a simple and messy hairstyle.
"Oh, it's YOU," she said, with a certain level of contempt. She turned to Hanana and asked, "What's this? What did you do, Yukiki?" Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
Yukiki pushed past her, pulling Hanana with him. Samama sighed and closed the door. She folded her arms. She obviously had little patience with him.
"Who are you?" Samama asked, looking Hanana up and down. "I don't think I've ever seen you before."
"She's Putata and Mekeke's newest charity project," Yukiki sneered. "She's gotten a little in over her head unfortunately."
"I asked her, not you," Samama snapped. She looked back to Hanana. "What's your name?"
"I'm Hanana. Could you please explain what's going on?"
Samama gently took her by the arm and escorted her into the sitting room. "I'll get you some tea, and Yukiki can tell you everything you want to know. Now, just stay here." Samama whipped around to face Yukiki and said, "No smoking in my house. If you want to, go outside." With that, she disappeared from the room.
Yukiki made a noise of disapproval and sat down in one of the armchairs. He retrieved his pipe from his coat pocket and started the epic struggle to light it. Pipes are frustrating in that particular way, especially when they have multiple tiers.
"I thought Samama told you not to smoke," Hanana said.
Yukiki laughed dryly. "Samama isn't the queen."
Hanana wished she could frown disapprovingly, but she didn't feel motivated enough to do it. "Now will you tell me what's going on? I don't want to be left in the dark any longer."
Yukiki took the pipe out of his mouth and sighed. "You could let it go. You could stop living with Mekeke and Putata and pretend this never happened."
"You just said I was in too deep! And I haven't got anywhere else to go! I demand an explanation!"
Yukiki sighed. "I didn't think you'd be this stubborn, but I suppose that you deserve to be rewarded for your patience." He leaned forward, holding Hanana's gaze. "We're assassins. That's the long and short of it. I hope you realize what you've gotten into."
In which Yukiki smokes where he shouldn't (oh and some important fact is revealed).
Submitted another chapter because I love you guys and I thought it was going a little slow with updating.
Pipes are indeed very hard to light. Don't smoke.
